JOB SUMMARY An Urban Forestry Professional (UFP) manages and maintains the City’s community forest, coordinates with the Tifton Tree Board, and reports to the Tifton City Manager. Please note: This is a grant funded position awarded by the Urban and Community Forestry Trees Across Georgia Grant Program. The position will be offered while funds are available.

MAJOR DUTIES

· Inspects, evaluates and monitors park and right-of-way trees for tree health and public safety and makes recommendations to the Tifton Tree Board regarding tree care, pruning, planting and removal and executes these activities.
· Leads the planting, watering, pruning, and maintenance of trees on public property.
· Maintains tree program maintenance and other records; directs efforts in long term urban forestry practices planning; and prepares or assists with grant applications, reports, contracts and bid specifications for urban forest activities.
· Investigates public complaints, provides information on local codes and policies related to public trees, and pursues enforcement action if required.
· Provides technical information and recommendations to contractors, developers, City departments, citizens and other agencies regarding trees and related issues.
· Develops educational, information materials and programs; coordinates community forestry events; and provides citizen assistance and customer service related to tree issues, including development and City capital project plan reviews.
· Supervises student-intern.
· Operates a motor vehicle safely.
· Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS This position will be supervised by the City Manager.

GUIDELINES Guidelines include City policies and procedures, safety procedures and the guidelines of the Employee Handbook.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK The purpose of this position is to maintain the City’s community forest. Work consists of related equipment operation duties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while outdoors intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY This position has supervision over the Urban Forestry Intern. The Urban Forestry Professional will assign duties in terms of general instruction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Two years of arborist experience are required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
· Current certification from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) or ability to attain an ISA Arborist Certificate within 12 months of appointment
· Valid Georgia Driver’s License
