Tree and Plant Appraisal Qualification (TPAQ) Training Now Available

If you want introductory training in the theory and application of current tree and plant appraisal, register now to attend our TPAQ training. This event will utilize both instructor-led discussions and case scenarios to illustrate concepts allowing participants to become familiar with the relevant methods and techniques used to approach plant appraisals and the ability to make reasoned judgement about the value of trees and landscape plants.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you will:

  • Understand basic appraisal concepts.

  • Define the tree and plant appraisal process.

  • Understand tree and plant appraisal, approaches, methods, and techniques.

  • Apply tree and plant appraisal approaches, methods, and techniques.

  •  Present assignment results. 

Eligibility
To apply to take the TPAQ workshop and earn the TPAQ certificate, applicants must:

  1. STANDARDS of PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE - Applicant will provide a signature page with application agreeing to follow the ASCA Standards of Professional Practice when conducting their work in the appraisal of plant or tree assignments.

  2. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE - Applicant will provide evidence of a minimum of 5 years of professional work experience in horticulture or arboriculture by the submittal of a curriculum vitae or resume.

  3. Applicant will provide evidence of at least one of the following:
    - Possess a four-year degree in arboriculture or a closely related field, such as urban forestry, horticulture, plant pathology, entomology, forestry, or plant biology (120 hours of study), OR
    - Be a Registered Consulting Arborist®, BCMA, or hold a similar credential from any other CTLA organization (ASCA, ISA, TCIA, ASLA, AmericanHort, ACF, NALP.)

About Your Instructor

As a Principal Arborist, Chris brings Brookwood Tree Consulting's vision to bear and serves as a full-time consulting arborist. His knowledge and experience is recognized as a Certified Arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and registered Consulting Arborist® through the American Society of Consulting Arborists® (ASCA). Chris combines a love for trees with almost 20 years experience studying and working with trees in the urban centers of the Southeast and in world renowned gardens across the United States and Europe.

Chris has developed tree management plans for residential homeowners, commercial developers, cities, parks, schools, and hospital and university campuses that actively utilize all concepts of tree appraisal and valuation. This diverse and unique background has provided the opportunity to engage hands on with tens of thousands of trees. 

Workshop Materials
You will be provided with a physical copy of the ASCA Tree and Plant Appraisal Qualification Workbook, as well as all necessary testing materials (Scantron, #2 pencils, exam).

In addition to the provided materials you are also required to bring the following:

  • Guide for Plant Appraisal, 10th Edition - physical copy only, a digit copy of the 10th Edition is NOT permitted.

  • Hard hat

  • High visibility clothing (i.e. - vest)

  • Scientific calculator (cell phone calculators are acceptable)

    ASCA Membership will be verified.

  • Qualified Non-ASCA Member – $1,500.00
