      Arborist Training

      INTERMEDIATE CLIMBING & RIGGING TECHNIQUES


      Join us in Marietta for this one-day Arborist Training Event!

      By the end of this course attendees will be able to identify hazards involved with tree climbing and rigging, understand the hierarchy of controls used to mitigate these hazards, and understand the necessity of documentation involved with climbing and rigging operations. They will gain an understanding of the inspection procedures, advantages and limitations of personal protective equipment, and arboricultural rigging equipment used all while maintaining and following safe work practices. Participants will be introduced to legislation pertaining to tree climbing and rigging operations as well as fall protection. Participants will also be educated, coached, and mentored in the applicable forces applied to anchor points, redirects and tie off methods used.

      Earn 6.5 Certified Arborist CEUs and 6.5 CTSP CEUs.

      Emergency Response & Aerial Rescue

      Tree climbers must know how to respond to an array of emergencies. Phillip Kelly, a Certified Arborist and Certified Tree Safety Professional, will instruct workshop participants on emergency preparedness, readiness and accident prevention using a mix of discussions and hands-on practice rounds.


      Workshop Topics:

      • Rescue, readiness and reality … high angle rescue challenges, climbing systems, and protocols, procedures and relevant legislation
      • First aid and CPR review … casualty assessment and emergency phone protocols
      • Risk assessment and scene management  site and electrical hazards, suspension trauma, and stress management
      • Extent and severity injury evaluation
      • Self-rescue and working in isolation … definition, techniques, and methods
      • Climber extrication … scenario evaluation, equipment preparation, removal systems (ropes, anchors and spar poles), and victim transport
      • Rescuer ascent and work positioning … rope and climbing systems and rescue strategies

      Workshop Delivery:

      • Friday 14 October 2022 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. -- rain or shine (canceling only for inclement weather)

      Hi fellow Arborists! It’s that time of year again time for the 6th Annual Walking, Past The Dead, Tree Tour.  We are looking for volunteers who are Certified Arborists who can lead walks on a trail through the cemetery and talk about the trees along the route.

      This is a free event with donations accepted for the Women Arborists of the Southeast scholarship fund and Friends of the Decatur Cemetery.

      Social distancing will be required by attendees and masks are optional.

      This interactive women led two-day course, led by instructors with an infectious passion for training, offers students a comprehensive hands-on introduction to modern day tree climbing systems and techniques. Participants will learn about climbing equipment, gear inspection, risk assessment, accessing the tree, to setup and implementation of moving rope systems (MRS), and stationary rope systems (SRS). This course will give participants a solid foundation and insight into safe and efficient tree climbing.
