There are certified arborists in the GAA who can speak on many different topics related to trees, including severe weather events. To find one in your region of Georgia, please contact us at 404-913-1422 or info@georgiaarborist.org.

See our Board president, Brian Ziegler, talk to The Weather Channel about tree storm damage -- and how getting a certified arborist can help.

Best Tree Climbers in Kingston, GA!

How long has it been since you’ve climbed a tree?

The best professional tree climbers in the country will be in Kingston, GA, on Saturday, November 13, and Sunday, November 14, for the 23rd annual Georgia Tree Climbing Championships (GTCC). In addition to seeing some of the best climbers up close, there will be food trucks and a free family tree climb that will get you and your kids safely up in the trees to see what it’s like for the pros. The event is hosted by the Georgia Arborist Association and is free and open to the public.

The GTCC gives public exposure to the professional arborist as climbers showcase their skill and agility in the treetops, competing for a spot at the International Tree Climbing Competition held by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).

The competition includes events that test a competitor’s ability to safely maneuver in a tree during timed events – from aerial rescue to work-related tasks such as limb walking. The event also provides an opportunity for working arborists to share new climbing techniques, knowledge of equipment and safe work practices.

Prior to the tree climbing competition, GAA will host its first annual Trees Unite Us Conference for seasoned and aspiring arborists, Nov. 11-12. The events will be held at The Barn Under the Oaks, 463 Hall Station Road, Kingston, GA 30145.

    Schedule of Events:

    Friday, 11/12/21:

7 pm – Aerial Ascent competition begins. Climbers go head-to-head in a “drag race up a tree” in this timed event in a magically lit 60-foot white oak.

    Saturday, 11/13/21:

8:30 am – Preliminary Climbs begin. Male and female competitors vie separately in five different, timed events. Those with the highest scores from the preliminary events will compete in Sunday’s Masters Challenge.

    11 am - 4 pm -- Family Tree Climb

    Sunday, 11/14/21:

9 am - 1 pm -- Masters Challenge (final rounds)

First Annual Trees Unite Us Conference

Arborists of all varieties come together in November meeting.

The Georgia Arborist Association (GAA) will host its first annual Trees Unite Us (TUU) Conference for seasoned and aspiring arborists, Thursday, November 11, and Friday, November 12, 2021.

The TUU conference allows arborists to engage in knowledge and safety practices while networking with tree professionals from throughout the Southeast United States. The conference will provide education for all arborists (including consulting, sales, municipal, utility, aspiring and climbing).

TUU provides 10 continuing education units (CEUs) for attendees in an affordable series of workshops.

Courses include a chance to learn about new business opportunities through credentialing and plant health care, identify pests and diseases while climbing, and discover electrical work safety from utility arborists.

A highlight of Friday, Nov. 12, will be a crane workshop taught by Tierson Boutte, founder and co-owner of Boutte Tree, Inc. Arborists will focus on storm-damaged trees and extreme rigging, while operating a 70-ton crane.

All TUU attendees have an opportunity to get in a tree, doing hands-on recreational and/or professional tree climbing, where experts will show techniques and how they apply to both arborists and enthusiasts. After the classes, this destination conference will offer time for networking, along with food and music.

After the TUU conference, the best professional tree climbers in the country will be in Kingston, GA, on Saturday, Nov. 13, and Sunday, Nov. 14, for the 23rd annual Georgia Tree Climbing Championships (GTCC).
