      University of Georgia Extension Gwinnett County is offering a workshop to help prepare those who are planning to take the Georgia Pesticide Applicator Licensing Exam in Category 24 Ornamental and Turf to pass it. The workshop will cover ONLY the Ornamental and Turf section and NOT the General Standards. Please refer to the attached registration form for more details.

      The program will be held on Friday, September 8, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Second Floor Conference Room, Gwinnett County Government Annex Building, 750 South Perry St., Lawrenceville, GA 30046. The cost is $10.00 per participants. Please note: New registration procedure.

      Workshop Description:

      Electricity is a serious and widespread hazard to arborists. In fact, electricity causes about 30 percent of all fatalities in the tree care industry, making it the leading cause of worker fatalities.

      All arborists must be trained to recognize and avoid these electrical hazards. Qualified line-clearance arborists must have additional knowledge about electrical hazards and the special techniques used to work safely near electrical conductors.

      Instructor: Robert Mead, CTSP

      Eligibility: Full- or part-time commercial tree care company employees and owners. Unemployed workers who want to work in the industry. Public employees in North Carolina are eligible per OSHA Guidelines.

      Pricing & Registration: Free, one-day workshop funded by OSHA Susan Harwood Grant SH29645SH6.

      Registrations from one company are capped at 5, until one week before the workshop when all empty seats are released. Sorry, no walk-ins. Registration is transferrable.

      Training Materials: EHAP materials are provided with registration, including the EHAP manual, Z133 Safety Standard and enrollment into the EHAP Program (a $135 retail value).

      Meals: Lunch is not provided. Please bring your own lunch.

      CEUs: Earn 7.0 ISA and CTSP CEUs for attending.

      This biannual two-day course focuses on critical components of tree and forest health care in Southern landscapes. In-depth topics taught by senior instructors include biotic threats from emerging and important pests, and abiotic stress issues associated with drought and soil constraints.

      This course is for arborists, foresters, tree health care providers, urban/community foresters, landscape architects, landscape managers, nursery managers, and others responsible for tree health care. New and experienced professionals will benefit from attending.

      CEU, certification, and registration credits will be available.
