2016 GAA OFFICERS AND DELEGATES
At the November membership meeting, elections were held for the 2016 GAA Board (officers and delegates). Congratulations to the new GAA Board, as follows:
President: Rusty Lee has been employed in the green industry for 26 years. He has been with Downey Trees for 15 years and previously worked in the landscape industry with Weeks Landscape and Nature Scapes as well as owning his own company. Rusty's degree is in Environmental Horticulture. He is a GA Certified Landscape Professional, GA Certified Pesticide License holder, GA Certified Turfgrass Professional, and an ISA-Certified Arborist. Rusty has served on the board of directors of the GUFC from 2007 -2011, including two terms as President in 2010 and 2011).
Past President: Jorge Rivera (now residing in Florida)
Vice President: Dave Butler is a Certified Arborist and Georgia Professional Geologist and has worked in the environmental field for over 25 years. He is currently employed by DeKalb County and manages land acquisition and natural resource management for the Parks Department. Dave also owns and manages The Tree Butler, a small tree care business primarily providing consulting arborist services to local area residents. Originally from Boston, Dave has lived in Atlanta for over 36 years and enjoys kayaking, hiking, birdwatching and spending time with his two grandsons.
Treasurer: Devon Lucabaugh
Secretary: Tom Coffin has been an ISA-Certified arborist since 2003 and a member of the GAA since about 1995. He has served as GAA Treasurer several times (including 2007-8, 2012, and currently). Tom earned his PhD from the UGA Warnell School of Forestry in 1995. Tom was a charter member of City of Atlanta Tree Conservation Commission in 1997-2000. He worked for the City of Atlanta as Arborist (2000-2007), Senior Arborist (2007-2008) and retired in 2010.
Delegate: Christie Bryant has been an arborist since 2009. She is also a GCLP. She has been in the green industry in Atlanta for ten years, the tree side for four with Gunnison Tree. She resides in SE Atlanta with her husband, two great danes, bees and chickens. She has two grown kids. Her son has sap in his veins also; he's a training climber at Downey Tree.
Delegate: Tim Daly is a native of DeKalb County, GA. He has two degrees from the University of Georgia College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. For the past eight years, he has been employed as a County Extension Agent in Gwinnett County. Tim is also a Certified Arborist.
Delegate: Michael Pavlis is the owner of Ossabaw Consulting, an arboriculture consulting firm based out of Savannah. He has a Bachelor's in Science degree from West Virginia University, a MS from Virginia Tech and is an ISA-Certified Arborist. Michael is also the President of the Coastal Arborist Association, serves on the Tybee Island Tree Board and is a community lacrosse coach for area youth and high school programs.
Delegate: Dhani Ramdin
Delegate: Russell Tonning has a Bachelor's of Science degree in Plant Biology and a Master of Arts in Public Administration. He has worked for the City of Powder Springs as a street division supervisor and was recently elected as a Rockdale County Soil and Conservation District Supervisor. He is also a certified arborist and recently started his own company, Piedmont Arborist Consultant, LLC.
Delegate: Josh Correll began climbing and working in trees 10 years ago at age 18. He has contracted with many companies along this time gaining knowledge and appreciation for the health of trees and earned his Arborist Certification in 2011 and Pesticide Applicator License in 2016. He currently works with Atlanta Arbor Tree Care directing the plant health care division and is an avid climber, hiker, caver and rides motorcross.

Delegate: Braden Smith has have been in the Green Industry for 7 years. His family had a small landscape company where he worked with for 5 years. He has been with Arbor Equity full time for 2 years and has been a Certified Arborist for 1 year. He loves being outdoors and enjoying nature and coaching youth academy soccer. He is recently married and living in Covington with his wife and 2 dogs.

Non-Voting Member: Peter Jenkins (Past President) is a founding member of the GAA and has served as its President several times. He is a Certified Arborist who ran his own tree service, Treeman, Inc. for 25 years before retiring as a professional climber. In his current business, TreeInspection.com, he inspects trees for health and risk assessment, and is TRAQ trained. Peter founded Tree Climbers International, Inc. in 1983, and has been teaching people to climb ever since. Peter loves photography, writing, and reading, but is most passionate about all things trees. He lives in DeKalb County with his wife and their three cats.
