    At the November membership meeting, elections were held for the 2018 GAA Board (officers and delegates). Congratulations to the new GAA Board, as follows:

    Rusty Lee, President
    Rusty has served on the GAA board for two years.Rusty has been employed in the green industry for 26 years. He has been with Downey Trees for 17 years, and previously worked in the landscape industry with Weeks Landscape and Nature Scapes as well as owning his own company. Rusty's degree is in Environmental Horticulture. He is a GA Certified Landscape Professional, GA Certified Pesticide License holder, GA Certified Turfgrass Professional, and an ISA-Certified Arborist. Rusty has served on the board of directors of the GUFC from 2007 -2011, including two terms as President in 2010 and 2011).

    Christie Bryant, Vice President
    This is Christie's second year serving on the GAA board. She works as an arborist for Gunnison Tree Specialists running the Tree Healthcare division. She has a degree in Environmental Horticulture from Chattahoochee Tech, and is also trained as a Horticultural Therapist.

    Devon Lucabaugh, Treasurer
    Devon has worked as an ISA certified arborist for Davey Tree Experts for the past four years, and has served on the GAA board for the last two years. He has a bachelor's degree in forest biology and a master's degree in European forests and forest science.

    Tom Coffin, Secretary
    Tom has served as GAA Treasurer several times (including 2007-8, 2012, and currently). Tom has been an ISA-Certified arborist since 2003 and a member of the GAA since about 1995. Tom earned his PhD from the UGA Warnell School of Forestry in 1995. Tom was a charter member of City of Atlanta Tree Conservation Commission in 1997-2000. He worked for the City of Atlanta as Arborist (2000-2007), Senior Arborist (2007-2008) and retired in 2010.


    Roland Orellana

    Tim Daly is a native of DeKalb County, GA. He has two degrees from the University of Georgia College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. For the past eight years, he has been employed as a County Extension Agent in Gwinnett County. Tim is also a Certified Arborist.

    Russell Tonning has a Bachelor's of Science degree in Plant Biology and a Master of Arts in Public Administration. He has worked for the City of Powder Springs as a street division supervisor and was recently elected as a Rockdale County Soil and Conservation District Supervisor. He is also a certified arborist and recently started his own company, Piedmont Arborist Consultant, LLC.

    Mike Pavlis is the owner of Ossabaw Consulting, an arboriculture consulting firm based out of Savannah. He has a Bachelor's in Science degree from West Virginia University, a MS from Virginia Tech and is an ISA-Certified Arborist. Michael is also the President of the Coastal Arborist Association, serves on the Tybee Island Tree Board and is a community lacrosse coach for area youth and high school programs.

    Josh Correll began climbing and working in trees 10 years ago at age 18. He has contracted with many companies along this time gaining knowledge and appreciation for the health of trees and earned his Arborist Certification in 2011 and Pesticide Applicator License in 2016. He currently works with Atlanta Arbor Tree Care directing the plant health care division and is an avid climber, hiker, caver and rides motorcross.

    Catherine Buckley, an Atlanta native, has a B.A. in Political Science from Clemson University and a law degree from Emory University.  After practicing insurance defense law for many years, she decided to radically switch gears by getting a horticulture degree and starting Pandora's Phlox, a landscape design/installation company which also specializes in seasonal color and pruning.  Catherine became a certified arborist to provide her clients another level of knowledge of the largest plants in their landscapes.  She is also on staff with the Horticulture Department at Gwinnett Tech. Catherine, her husband and their two daughters live in the LaVista/Oak Grove area and are huge Clemson and Notre Dame fans.

    Dave Butler is a Certified Arborist and Georgia Professional Geologist and has worked in the environmental field for over 25 years. He is currently employed by DeKalb County and manages land acquisition and natural resource management for the Parks Department. Dave also owns and manages The Tree Butler, a small tree care business primarily providing consulting arborist services to local area residents.  Originally from Boston, Dave has lived in Atlanta for over 36 years and enjoys kayaking, hiking, birdwatching and spending time with his two grandsons.

    Braden Smith has been in the Green Industry for seven years. His family had a small landscape company where he worked with for five years. He has been with Arbor Equity full time for 2 years and has been a Certified Arborist for one year.  He loves being outdoors and enjoying nature and coaching youth academy soccer. He is recently married and living in Covington with his wife and two dogs.
